Driving a steam train was a childhood dream for many, and if yours never quite faded, perhaps it's time to realise it.

The Watercress Line railway, which dates back to 1865, offers gorgeously nostalgic driving experiences in their perfectly preserved collection of original steam trains. The station buildings are preserved just as they were and the line runs through miles and miles of pretty Hampshire countryside, so there is nothing at all to ruin the idyllic impression.

As a total beginner, you can learn how to operate the controls and fire the engine, and try your hand at both, so you'll be in control as you speed through the fields in a cloud of steam and heat, climbing challenging slopes and managing the brakes as you descend again. Tiring, exciting and great fun.
