Un-learn everything you know about driving a car and try flying six inches off the ground at eighty miles per hour, and steering backwards; driving a hovercraft is unlike any other ‘vehicle experience’. More than just a test-drive of a great, big amphibious machine, hovercraft driving allows you to develop skills that would wouldn’t even know you have. Left becomes right due to the thrust-based steering, and the use of your weight in slowing the inside edge on a turn means that you have to use your whole body to control the craft, making the experience very physical and enormous fun. There are no brakes, and no wheels to limit steering, so it is a little like sliding on ice in a car, but far less dangerous and with much more bounce!

This unusual leisure pursuit has not always been available to the masses, but in 1966, the Hovercraft Club of Great Britain was formed, and its members enjoy races, cruising and fun events in several locations throughout the UK. Try their fabulous Magnoll’s Farm site in East Lancashire, a satisfyingly huge space, part land and part water, where formula one hovercraft racing is held on a regular basis. Amateurs are welcome too, and some slightly less extreme 250cc crafts are available, so even children can share in the thrills.

How much is it to have a hovercraft lesson?

I would like to know how much it would be for a lesson in a hovercraft?

Where would you like to take a lesson? There are different locations all over the world and price depends hugely on where take your lessons.
