Heli-Biking in the Tien Shan

With its untouched, wild beauty and impressive mountain ranges, it is not surprise that Kazakhstan can provide the lot. Finding Kazakhstan’s best off-road biking locations requires around fives days of biking in itself, through mountain passes, across roaring, icy rivers and past endless, open plains populated only by nomadic herdsmen.

The end of this glorious ride will find you camping by a river in the Karkara Valley, surrounded on all sides by the Tien Shan, or Celestial Mountains. There is enough new ground to explore to last for weeks, but if you can helicopter up to the Chon Ashy and Mingtur mountain passes, they are not to be missed.

There is nothing easy about the terrain in this area and an expedition here is a real adventure. A good level of fitness in essential, as there will be difficult climbs, speedy descents and impacts to test your suspension. Camping is really the only accommodation option for those who want to be near the best terrain, but the experience is well worth the sacrifice of a few nights in a hotel!
