Big Thunder Gold Mine

Big Thunder Gold Mine is located in Keystone, South Dakota. The cave was discovered in 1882 by two German immigrants who also did much of the mining work. The men found gold when they struck “Lucky Boy Vein” found in the cave.

The Big Thunder Gold Mine has guided tours running daily where you will be taken in an authentic 1890's gold mine vehicle. There is also a museum located on the Big Thunder property which contains a large amount of mining equipment. The museum is free! Other activities here are gold panning, gift store and an eatery.
