Spanning the Arkansas River, the Big Dam Bridge connects exercise trails in North Little Rock to Little Rock. For those who built it, the Bridge is a symbol of friendship and community, health and fitness, and economic prosperity and quality of life.

For all its symbolism, the Big Dam Bridge is a rather silly, albeit useful, piece of architecture. The concept of the building the world’s longest pedestrian/bicycle bridge is graspable, but to turn it into a symbol of economic prosperity? That’s a new one. Still, the views from the bridge are pretty spectacular and it offers a nice respite for city dwellers wishing to take a walk in the evenings.
