This vast arid valley lies between the Himalayas and the Pir Panjal range. It has been a significant territory for several cultural and religious groups and now reflects this in its slow paced but colourful culture recognized for its energetic folk dancing and music and its fine ceramics. Kashmir has been a popular spot for visitors since the 19th Century when it became the travel destination for hunters.
