This Tuscan region isn't quite the same colours as the rest of Tuscany – those colours that this part of Italy is famous for – the clay here, instead of being warm red shades, is more grey, which is why the region is sometimes likened to a lunar landscape.

As well as the different colour of the soil this region is also know for its white truffles.
