Forty-two tiny limestone islands make up the Angthong National Marine Park. Angthong, meaning ‘golden bowl,’ is 31 kilometres west of Samui and features breath-taking views of virgin tropical rain forests, white sand beaches, and coral reefs, all preserved as a national park that you can easily visit.

These islands rise hundreds of metres from the sea as dramatic rock formations and are inhabited by much Asian wildlife. Asian long-tailed monkeys, hair-nosed otters, sea turtles, white bellied sea eagles, pacific reef egrets, and ashy drongos surround the islands. Go snorkeling, swimming, or walking around the islands, finding yourself in an oasis of blue water, hidden lakes and caverns created from years of erosion.

You can go on large or smaller tours of the islands, or pull some friends together, rent out a boat for the day, and explore this archipelago. If you want the best views, make your trip between late March and October when visibility is at its best.
