Curacao is a great location for less experienced divers and one of the best places for shore diving. Its coastline has around 60 dive sites and is home to more than 500 fish species. It has a diverse range of sites, including large rock formations, walls, caves, coral reefs and shipwrecks.

One of Curaco's most famous dives is the Mushroom Forest, which gets its name from the vertical coral growths which have been eroded around their bases (by sponges and clams feeding on them.) to form mushroom shapes. Lots of creatures hide amongst the crevices of the ridged coral surfaces including porcupine fish, turtles, anemones, snapper, parrotfish and lobster. Divers will also see the descriptively named giant brain coral. The forest has a sandy bottom and the wave action above is quite gentle so visibility is quite good. Bring a compass, some divers find the forest disorientating.
