The Badlands is a region like no other. The harsh alien landscape is a place of extremes, blazing like a furnace in summer and locked in a deep freeze in winter. Roads and hiking trails allow you to explore some of the most unique and famous scenery on Earth, but be sure to bring plenty of water. In some areas one can find 30 million year old fossils of extinct mammals, and living herds of Bighorn Sheep are often seen despite the desolation. Nearby are the Pine Ridge Sioux Indian reservation and the lovely Black Hills.
