This rail trail winds through some of Minnesota’s prettiest regions covering around three hundred kilometres, between Ely and Grand Rapids, some which is still undergoing construction. It’s another of the ‘discover America’ type trails focused on providing people with historic information as well as scenic. The theme here is history, especially that of the mining companies in this region that have shaped the way the area looks today and the glaciers which shaped the region before that. This trail is well paved and maintained and there are surrounding amenities making for a comfortable trip. In summer the trail is also popular with hikers and for campers and fishermen. If you’re a bit more adventurous there are lots of small side paths off from the main waiting to be explored.
