Bodrum's Tuesday Textiles Market is the place to find textiles made all over. This isn't just fabric, what's on offer at this market borders on the line: A riot of colour. The rows of stalls selling fabrics, clothes and shoes an get pretty noisy. If you're on the prowl for authentic gifts, a carpet, kilims or rug is a good choice – earthenware bowls and pots are a bit heavy and clothes made of the local fabrics are seldom made in the traditional style. If you're not a purist the clothes and shoes are actually very nice.
Bodrum's markets used to be held on the streets, and even once the 'marketplace' was built a lot of locals still preferred the traditional, lively atmosphere of the streets – but they had to accept change and in reality the atmosphere isn't much different, just less in the way of other traffic. Thursday and Friday the same space is used for the food – which is equally colourful. Try the local mushrooms.
The thing about this bit of coastline is that there are markets happening along it every day of the week – if not in Bodrum in one of the smaller villages around it.
