This is one of the most amazing coral reefs you can expect to see. You walk into a contained world of shape and colour to rival any wonder of the world. Shiraho is also environmentally significant and has some of the world’s oldest coral growths and excellent biodiversity of coral, with around 120 species in a small area covering only around ten square kilometres. It also has some unusual kinds, including a leaf like coral and giant coral cylinders larger than those seen in any other reef. A large diversity of marine life is in turn supported by the coral species. This area is particularly important because of it’s location on the very edge of the zone where coral environments survive. It is also significant because of it’s location close to shore.
