Taliesin in Spring Green was Frank Lloyd Wright’s summer residence (winter residence Taliesin West, Arizona), set on 600 acres, and is now a pastoral estate, including the architecture school of his style during the summer months, with a strange mix of public and private property. It is a site of multiple murders committed by a disturbed servant who killed Wright’s mistress and her children. Unlike many of his more famous buildings, this seems fated to constant griping misfortune, an ironic tribute to his resistance to convention. Taliesin desperately wants to sink into its hillside. Perhaps the problem arose from the fact that Wright was building for himself, his extravagant creativity unbridled by a client’s wishes.
