{Останкинская телебашня)

This was the world’s first free standing structure to top 500m – it’s actually 540m tall, and was the building to snatch the crown from the top of the Empire State Building and hold the title of the World’s tallest Free Standing Structure for the next nine years. It was designed by Nikolai Nikitin and erected between 1963 and 67 - to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the October Revolution.

This is a working tower, 11 television and radio stations are broadcast from it, though it’s also a tourist attraction and it used to be the home of the famous Seventh Heaven Restaurant. Until it burned down in 2000 when the tower caught fire.
