The First Jacobs is the purest and most famous application of Wright's Usonian concepts. This building came after a time of impasse in Wright’s career. While designing Broadacre City, Wright pompously suggested that the name of USA be changed to Usonia, with all Usonians housed in structures designed and built to his principles of organic architecture! Surrounded by ample space, they should open up to the elements in contrast to traditional. The materials of the Usonian house would be nature's own: wood, stone, or bricks, and glass curtain walls. It was a wildly ridiculous concept, but the buildings he built to demonstrate this are lovely.
