The CCTV Building in Beijing is an amazing piece of modern architecture with style obviously far more important than function. The structure seems to defy gravity with its very angular and offset archway so it is a great pity that it has never been put to use. A fire in the neighbouring hotel caused considerable damage to the building before it was ever opened and visitors may not even access the site.
The views from nearby streets are still worthwhile for those with an interest. The easiest way to get here is to take the metro to Guamao, the interchange between lines 1 and 10 to the east of Tiananmen Square. Once up the escalator you can hardly fail to see what you're looking for. The challenge is perhaps just to get a better angle for your photographs.
