This building is the second oldest of the Smithsonian Institution's museums in Washington DC. It is also a designated National Historic Landmark named in 1971. The building is currently in the process of renovations which began in 2004.

The building currently sits empty with no use and no foreseeable future. It is not sure what is going to be made of this building but it will hopefully be reopened in the near future. There are talks of the building being turned into an education center. This building is a great place to visit the outside while walking through the historic parts of DC.

This building, constructed in 1881, is a historic landmark and should at least be seen during your visit.
