From the towering surf-pounded cliffs of Cabo da Rocha near Lisbon to the lovely tranquil coves of the Algarve, the southern coast of Portugal has much to offer in terms of rugged coastal scenery. There are some great places to surf if you know where to find them.

I and a group of friends went to Vale de Ferro, a horse riding center near Mexilhoeira Grande, in the Algarve, the southern most province of Portugal, for a short holiday.
What we found was much more that we had expected: beautiful, calm and very well trained horses, the whole place filled with exotic gardens and a clean and spacious swimming pool. The rooms too were clean and good sized. The food was made for the most part from local ingredients and was very good. Very friendly staff (especially the riding instructors, Julien, Petra and Pedro) were multilingual. Our group of five had different levels of experience but there was no problem to find the right horse. The place is located only a few minutes drive from the beaches of Alvor, Praia da Rocha, and Lagos, so we able to ride in the morning and go to the beach in the afternoon. Really my best riding holiday ever.
