What look like large chimneys jutting out of the Lake Ontario coastline are the Chimney Bluffs in Chimney Bluffs State Park. This state park in New York was formed from constant wind and water erosion, creating magnificent spires of clay. This landscape is constantly changing and is a popular destination for those who want to hike around the cliffs. Chimney Bluffs State Park offers scenic views of the dramatic Chimney Bluffs as well as the waters of Lake Ontario. Whether you're up for a hike or just a relaxing day fishing on the beach, the Chimney Bluffs offer a spectacular background for any activity.

For those who are interested in hiking the cliffs, be warned that you should not walk along the edge of the cliffs because the bluffs are very unstable. Depending on your pace, the entire hike takes about one hour. It's best to start walking along the pebbly beach with the bluffs towering above you. It is then possible to hike up the cliffs and circle back around to where you started. For those who do not want the challenge of hiking the cliffs, walking along the beach still provides excellent views of the bluffs and Lake Ontario. Chimney Bluffs State Park is a great destination for hikers as well as families. There are various areas to stop for a picnic and there are clean restrooms near the entrance of the park. It's possible to enjoy these natural wonders either from the ground or by actively hiking the trails.
