In the 1970s the southern tip of the Baja peninsula had only a small fishing village. Occasionally a few surfers like myself would show up, but few tourists. Today there is a large town and major tourist destination, a favorite stop for cruise ships. The rugged cape known as Cabo San Lucas is still just as spectacular with its towering granite cliffs and pounding surf. Take a walk along Lover's Beach on the western side of the narrow cape for views of massive rock formations and thunderous shorebreaks. In calm seas you can kayak around the cape and through the famous arch. This area is also internationally famous for its sports fishing.
