Any Roman historian should visit Sperlonga before they die. For the rest of us mortals, it's still pretty cool. The site holds the remains of the villa of Tiberius, an emperor who really seemed to like the Odyssey. Most of the art in the house has Odysseus somewhere in it; with episodes ranging from the assault by Scylla to the theft of the Palladium. Pretty fun stuff, even if you aren't into it, as the Odyssey was full of really fun, gory bits, which the artists did their bests to imagine. Also, poke your head in the cavern that holds the grotto - legend has it that Emperor Tiberius was nearly killed by rocks falling from the ceiling. Watch your head!

Most of the artwork is actually on display in the local museum, which is on the grounds of the villa. There is a popular seaside resort town nearby, as well.
