Phaselis was built by the people of Rhodes in about 700BC, opposite their own harbour. These two harbours, and those that dwelt around them then became some of the most influential and important in the region. This didn't escape the notice of the Persians or Alexander the Great, both of them took Phaselis. The city's three harbours have all survived these conquests, as have some of the streets that run between them and the ruins of the stores that lined them. Sites of Roman baths, a theatre and the agora can all be identified. Those, and the streets and shops probably date from the 2nd Century.

The nearest towns to Phaselis are Kemer and Tekirova, it's within the Olympos National Park.
