While Turku relinquished its status as Finland’s capital to Helsinki in 1812, nothing can change the fact that it is the nation’s oldest city. Its medieval landmarks are impressive, particularly Turku Cathedral which dates back to 1300, and the Castle from the 1280s. Turku’s Christmas City is an exciting annual event, transforming the streets and squares into a festively decorated marketplace with a number of attractions.
