Salvador de Bahia

This city was Brazil's first capital and still shows its ancient mixture of cultures from Europe, Africa and the Americas. Look around you at the architecture for the first sign of this.

This town also had the New World's first slave market – which isn't necessarily something to be proud of now, but it lent the city colour and life that it hasn't lost.
