One of Russia’s oldest towns, Rostov has the onion topped Russian Orthodox Churches, Kremlins, monasteries and museums which typify historic towns in this region surrounding Moscow. First mentioned in print in the year 862, the town is laid out around a central town square the main feature of which is a huge 16th Century Assumption cathedral.
