A port on the Weser river, the city of Bremen is one of the Hanseatic city states, the major Baltic sea traders between the 13th and 17th Centuries. Most of the historic attractions are in Bremen’s old town surrounding the river within the former walls and moat of the medieval city. The architecture is a blend of Gothic and Renaissance, the highlights the Town Hall, Markplatz, cathedral and 11thCentury church with muralled crypt.
