The first time I knowingly saw Turin was when I watched 'The Italian Job', so for me the city will always be inked to cinema, even though I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that wacky one way system and all the beautiful old churches and squares the minis drive though in the film.
People who've been to this temple to celluloid can't help but mention the ultimate comfort of the red lounges in the Temple Hall, which is at the museum's heart and where you can take a break from wandering to interact with cinema in the way you're supposed to. Running off the main hall like limbs and organs are ten galleries demonstrating ten facets of film history: the history of film, the 'Film Factory' where you cans see shooting script and all the parts you need to make a movie, the special effects unit, animation, horror, love and death, surreal and outrageous, experimental cinema, and a walk in fridge full of toilets that's supposed to set the scene for the absurd section.
The displays are obviously multimedia, and range from a collection of (static) old props and memorabilia, to all the bells and whistles demonstrations of the latest innovative technology. Some of the stars would have to be original scripts for 'Citizen Kane' and 'The Godfather', Charlie Chaplin's bowler hat, a Darth Vader mask and two original Cinema Lumiere posters from the very first days of cinema...I'm ready for my close up now...
