One of Helsinki’s favourite picture postcard subjects, the Lutheran Tuomiokirkko is neo-classically imposing, clean and glowing white, with an evocative Ancient Greek feel that is at bizarre odds with the surrounding grey and earthy tones of the city. It is identifiable for miles around by its central green copper dome and four surrounding smaller ones, and the roof is also the home of twelve huge statues of the Apostles, the world’s largest set of zinc sculptures, which face out in four directions to mirror the building’s cardinal symmetry.
