The oldest place of worship for Methodists in the world, this box like building of the 18th century is now in the middle of a modern shopping complex that would probably leave the Wesley’s speechless with rage at the seven day trading! The simple interior was intended to promote the clear articulation of preaching and to enable it to be heard, something that may be low on modern worshippers enjoyment but still a key element to the Methodist belief. In view of the effect of John Wesley’s preaching and Charles hymn writing, we have much to give thanks for in this modest but important building. In Horsefair, in the centre of Bristol
