St. Front

Listed under Churches & Abbeys in South West, France.

Dwarfing the surrounding timber-framed, southern French houses, the Romanesque Saint Front Cathedral is located in the very centre of Perigeux. Built in the shape of a Greek cross, it carries five high, tiled domes and many small turrets, giving the building a strong Byzantine feel. Additions were made on several occasions between the 12th and 16th Centuries, giving the cathedral a complex, spacious layout.
