One of the best designed church buildings of the 19th century, Hoar Cross is better patronised for its luxury Spa Hotel next to the church, but the church is a major eye-catching sight. In size and scale, as well as materials, the exterior has much in common with Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral (the largest church building in Britain) but the interior is far more ornate and uniformly designed by G F Bodley as well as helping to create a sombre and mysterious atmosphere through the dark and rich colours of the glass as well as the colour of the tiles and decoration. If built properly in the first place, a true 19th century idea of how a medieval church would have been built. 7 miles west of Burton on Trent
