The building of Rouen Cathedral continued throughout much of the Gothic period, so the various towers and sections all display varying Gothic architectural trends which melt together in a gloriously ornate tangle of miniscule, perfect stonework, as painted repeatedly by Monet in a series showing the western façade as if it were built of millions of tiny flowers. The cathedral is crowned by a massive, 152-metre cast iron spike and decorated with a range of stained glass windows from across five centuries, as well as being home to some magnificent Renaissance tombs.
