Originally a Romanesque building, the Cathedral of our Lady of Strasbourg was completed during the 14th Century as a towering example of the late Gothic style. It remained the world’s tallest church until the late 19th Century but despite its hulking presence, its elaborate exterior is splendidly delicate, with finely patterned stonework and sculptures rendered in warm, pink Vosges sandstone. Inside, one of the world’s largest astronomical clocks can be found, and its mechanism is still functional, moving a bell-ringing angel and several other figures around at set hours, as well as accurately pinpointing the positions of the planets.

Breathtaking 14th century 'skycraper!'

I've been in Strasbourg twice, once for a weekend excursion while i was studying in Paris and once to study right there in Strasbourg! Strasbourg is an awesome place, and Centre-ville area is just a gem for all of you who love gothic culture and medieval age architecture... and above all, this fabulous cathedral is simply breathtaking, standing there since 14th century as a medieval skycraper (it had benn the tallest momument in europe until the Cologne Cathedral was built) i hope all of you visit Strasbourg and experience it! u can also enjoy some gourmet food there, in style alsacien!
