York is charming at Christmas anyway, with its quaint medieval streets and tiny 'snickelways', old city walls, traditional market places and fabulous Gothic cathedral – but the St. Nicholas Fayre just about perfects it. Sitting alongside a variety of other festive frolics that take place in York during November and December, it comprises a ‘Medieval Market’, a ‘Made in Yorkshire Market’ and a ‘Children's Fayre.’ Find local and continental hand made ceramics, toys, clothing, farm produce and seasonal treats in several of the city's squares, Medieval-style traders, ale and mulled wine in Barley Hall and toys, workshops and rides on Parliament Street.
If you're visiting during the penultimate weekend before Christmas, don't forget to stop by The Quarter and see the bohemian Festival of Angels, too.
