Prague is known for lovely architecture, and this square is one of the loveliest, but in December it’s controversially garnished with a very large, very artificial Christmas tree. The markets that accompany the tree are far less controversial, selling Christmas market staples like handmade decorations, toys and carvings, Czech glass, and svarak (mulled wine) in collectable ceramic cups.
Artisans and craftsmen are at work on the goods in some of the stalls so you can see the care and time that goes into these traditional gifts.

The Christmas markets in Prague offer over 150 stalls of everything from decorated gingerbread to wooden toys to punch. However the sound of this market is what it is known for, as almost every church will have its choir singing carols. A small zoo also adds flavor, with pony rides and a petting zoo, and a nativity scene nearby. At the center of it all is an enormous Christmas tree that transforms the city's skyline.
