A little way out from Vienna's centre, Spittelberg is a relaxed, somewhat bohemian area that was once regarded as a poorer suburb but has since evolved into a fashionable district of craft shops, galleries, design houses, bookshops and cafes.
Its narrow, cobbled streets and baroque houses host a weekly craft market at which you can purchase silverwork, leather goods, dolls and other decorative items, and during the Christmas period, the market expands and offers seasonal goods such as decorations and greetings cards.
Craft workshops and street theatre performances offer entertainment for children, and you can always take a break to enjoy the annual young Viennese wine tasting, or some more traditional 'punsch' and gluhwein.
