Five different towns contribute to the South Tyrol Christmas Markets – Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone, Brunico, and Vipiteno. Rather than competing against each other, the markets strive to unify the region through the celebration of Christmas. They recommend the “five star tour,” a pre-planned route through the towns, as the easiest way to visit them all in one trip. Along the way you can visit Runkelstein Castle, Spa Merano, and many medieval buildings that have seen hundreds of years of Christmas traditions at their doorsteps. It seems that the food is one of the most highly anticipated market attractions, with each town promoting its home-made Italian confections.
