The imposing, symmetrical Maria-Theresien-Platz hosts a pretty Christmas village during November and December each year, just a short walk away from Vienna’s largest Weihnachtsmarkt (outside the City Hall).
The 64 decorated chalet stalls encircle the central statue of Empress Marie-Theresa herself, framed by the lavish architecture of the huge Art History and Natural History museums, specially lit for the occasion.
Besides traditional and modern hand-crafted gifts, decorations, toys, food, stationery and souvenirs, you’ll discover special children’s activity workshops, a nativity scene, a brass band and a gospel choir.
Don’t miss out on the spiced punch, mulled wine and ‘Bauern Krapfen’ – fresh, hot donuts with your choice of topping.
