Lincoln's Christmas market is promoted as the largest of its kind in Europe, with more than three hundred stalls, but it loses none of its traditional festive atmosphere for all that. Set within the confines of the city's ancient, cobbled Minster Yard with its half-timbered houses, the market is all the more evocative for the presence of the glorious 12th century cathedral, which is specially lit for the occasion, and the imposing Norman castle.
An impressively large selection of wood carvings, jewellery, art works, ceramics, glassware, leather, candles, cakes, preserves, toys, decorations and other gifts are yours for the browsing, and of course you'll find sustenance in the form of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.
Victorian-costumed carol singers and a brass band add to the atmosphere, and don't leave before hearing the cathedral bells ringing out for Christmas on the hour!
