The Wonderland Trail is 93 miles long, tracing a route around the base of Mount Rainier and over a few elevated sections – the highest being 6,750 feet at Panhandle Gap. Even many people who've climbed this mountain think the best views are of the mountain itself.

Surprisingly few people complete the full trail each year, it takes a bit under two weeks for most walkers – most people just work though it in sections. It's a pretty strenuous trek, more a climb in many places than a hike – and there are a couple of impressively treacherous river crossings including two particularly exhilarating suspension bridges. One of the best sections to do is the bit around Little Tahoma.

If you're not even up to a small section of the trail consider camping along it – there are 18 camp sites along the route. You need to book them if you're camping in peak season.
