The Reifenstein, in the Italian South Tyrol town of Vipiteno, is probably Europe's best-preserved Medieval castle. Signora (or Frau) Blanc is the current owner, who takes visitors on a guided tour of her palatial home, regaling all with tales of unfortunate townsfolk imprisoned with no food or water for days on end as punishment for not paying their taxes.

Kufstein

Kufstein is a city in Tyrol, Austria, located along the river Inn, in the lower Inn valley, near the border with Bavaria, Germany, and is the site of a post World War II French sector United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration Displaced Persons camp.

Kufstein sits astride the Inn River as it flows north from the Tyrol into Germany. The fortress ( Festung Kufstein) is built on the eastern hillside overlooking the river.

The greatest landmark of Kufstein is the Kufstein Fortress, which was first mentioned in the 13th century.

The majestic fortress is the center of many activities, and the romantic ancient town center represents an enchanting counterpart. It is attractive, with galleries, museums, exquisit shops, and traditional stores, offering high fashion trends, hospitality, fun and is simply lots of flair.

Glass manufacturer Riedel, gunmaker Voere, and ski and tennis racket manufacturer Kneissl are based in Kufstein. It is just a few kilometers away from the German border on the Munich - Innsbruck - Brennero highway.
