Maastricht's St Gerlach castle is part of the Chateau St Gerlach estate and nature reserve, owned by a luxury hotel group, sitting on the River Guel in Valkenburg and now home to Les Trois Corbeaux and Bistrot de Liege restaurants. The castle was something of a boho hang-out during the 1600s, becoming, under the ownership of Pieter Hooft, a residence for a small colony of writers and artists.
