Though construction on this royal castle began in the 12th Century it was repeatedly added to and updated, becoming more and more of an impressive monument. After a fire much of this grandeur was undone and Krivoklat was converted into a prison (the fearsome torture chambers still exist.). Now home to an impressive collection of Gothic sculptures and paintings, a library, museum and the carefully restored late Gothic chapel.

Got married in the courtyard!

One of my favorite castles n all the Czech Rep. My wife and I had our first day-trip together here, so it was a perfect choice for our "fairytale" wedding years later! The castle sits on a promontory formed by a large bend in the river, with forested, rolling hills on all sides. Very picturesque!
