The ornamental facade of this "Palace of Winds" is a prominent landmark in Jaipur. The are five storey structures of sandstone plastered pink, encrusted with fine trelliswork and elaborate balconies. The palace has 953 niches and windows. Built in 1799 by Pratap Singh, the Mahal was a royal grandstand for the palace women.  They could look out and not be seen by the commoners.

Hawa Mahal is the most stunning sight and major landmark of Jaipur city..I visited hawa mahal and it is really a beautiful piece of historical architecture..It is remarkable Rajput structure that is truly worth visiting.

Salmon Sandstone

This ornate stone palace in salmon sandstone was constructed in 1799 to resemble the god Krishna’s crown. These five storeys were home to the ladies of the royal harem, one of its main features are its beautiful, delicately grilled windows allowing the women of the harem to watch the streets and markets below without being seen. 953 small windows open onto the street side, allowing in the breezes to keep the palace cool in all seasons but not much else, this gives the palaces its name, translated to Palace of Winds. Another interesting feature of the palace is that is doesn’t have any stairs, only ramps. The back of the palace opens on to a courtyard.
