Dublin Castle no longer houses royalty - it hasn't for centuries, today it's the site for presidential inaugurations and modern Ireland's government houses. It has served many purposes over the years and been a part of many historical events- people have been shot and killed on its grounds and the Irish Crown Jewels were stolen from here and never recovered. Most important names from Irish history have somehow been connected to Dublin Castle.
You can take a guided tour around the castle today and it's pretty entertaining because of all the history that is attached to it. The rooms themselves are nicely decorated with large chandeliers and vintage mirrors- typical of many European Castles. The courtyard and gardens are also very pretty to take a walk though.
