Lauriston Castle is supposed to be haunted. Ghostly footsteps changing pace move around the upper floors as if there's someone above running, or walking...

From the outside it's easily a haunted mansion with its many narrow chimneys and imbalanced arrangement of windows in grey stone. If you know about these things it's built in the Jacobean style, but that overhaul came in 1827, it was originally built as a tower house at the end of the 16th Century by a Sir Archibald Napier. Inside it's Edwardian, it fact it's been kept just as it was in 1926, and this is the bit that most people are interested to see, as it's open to the public as a museum of Edwardian country house life in Scotland, bequeathed to the Scottish people by the last, barren, owners.
