The Château de Saumur is a palace worthy of a lovely princess.  White with rounded turrets and grey pointed roofs, and many small windows, this is the kind of structure my younger sister used to draw all the time when she was little.  The castle was built by the forbears of the famous Plantagenets, and in the 13th Century the castle had proper royal residents, not just extended family lesser royals, when it became part of Philip II's royal domain.  Under Napoleon the castle became a prison, after serving for some time as an army barracks.

These days the castle is part horse and cavalry museum, part museum of toy soldiers.  Which is quite fitting.
