Situated on the Western side of Hunda Island in the Jao Reserve, Tubu Tree is one of those wonderful small camps that create an atmosphere of what safari is all about. With only 5 tents, the camp is the ultimate in unpretentious intimacy and privacy. Xigera Xigera is an example of the true Delta experience. Exploring the waterways around this camp is the main focus of activities with guests spending most days on the water, either by boat or by makoro. The camp has a very relaxed atmosphere with people often spending all day slumped around the camp, simply enjoying being completely surrounded by the delta floods in what is a fabulous camp.
Time seems to move at a very relaxed pace at Xigera and being the only camp in the area you are guaranteed to spend the days in complete solitude, sharing the surroundings with Xigera guests alone in total privacy. Game drives during the day and at night offer something for the more active and the walking safaris with the guides here cannot be missed.
The camp itself is very well spaced out with each safari tent being joined by a maze of high wooden walkways, allowing game to stroll directly through and under camp. Each tent has a large thatched roof, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers as well as a wooden decking veranda offering great views over the floodplains in front.
The main lounge and dining areas are spacious and welcoming, focusing around a fire that looks over one of the permanent channels of the Delta. It is not uncommon for guests to see predators using the walkway, which joins Xigera’s island to the next, as a means of getting from one island to the next without getting their feet wet!
Full flood comes to Xigera in June, flooding the huge plains in front of each room for the following 5 months but the camp also has good access to dry areas for game drives throughout the year peaking from December to March and early April.
