The fact that guests here reside in “tents” is just about the only thing that qualifies this luxury destination on the edge of the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve in west-central India as a campsite. The tents themselves are huge, exquisitely woven and house top-end suites at top-end prices. The campsite is set amongst painstakingly landscaped gardens while each individual “tent” has its own private walled garden and sun deck. There is more than a touch of the extravagant in the regal style furnishing and decoration, but will likely be forgiven in the presence of the ancient, awe-inspiring landscape.

India is tiger territory, and what better a place to have a tiger experience than in a top luxury tented resort. Oberoi Vanyavilas is located on the edge of the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, in Rajasthan province. The camp consists of 25 luxury tents, each with its own deck and private walled garden. The tents are furnished with king-size beds, mini bars, air-conditioning and big bathtubs- perhaps some of the most well-equipped tents around! However, the accommodation is not the biggest deal here. The reserves wildlife and scenery is undoubtedly the main attraction. There are several lakes with resident crocodiles, a 1000 year old fortress (the reserve was once a royal hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur) and of course, the majestic tigers, which the reserve aims to protect and celebrate at the same time. The best opportunity for tiger sightings are in the months on May and June due to the weather.
